Year one

Welcome to Year 1. Our classes are all named after woodland animals; Badgers, Squirrels and Hedgehogs.

In Year 1 the children will be encouraged to become independent learners. Active learning allows the children to continue their child initiated learning as they are used to in the Foundation Stage. Gradually throughout the year active learning will reduce in time and frequency to prepare the children for Year 2.  Each day will have structured lessons to develop their skills following the national curriculum.

The classroom doors open at 8:45am every morning which will allow you to drop off your child. The bell will be rung at 8:50am and the doors will be closed. School will finish at 3:30pm and your child must be collected from their classroom door. If you have any queries or concerns there will be a member of staff at the door for you to speak to.

In Year 1 we have some exciting topics to help us develop our skills. We are especially focussing on handwriting and all children are encouraged to write in correctly formed lowercase letters.

Reading books will be sent home every day and the children will visit the school library once a week.  We aim to encourage a love of reading so please read and enjoy books with your child as much as you can!

We look forward to meeting you over the next few weeks and here's to an exciting first term in year 1.
